Information about the Honda Pilot in Denver

Honda Pilot in Denver Trim Options | Kuni Honda

What is one to do for a New Denver Honda if the CR-V isn’t quite big enough and the Odyssey is just a little too much minivan to bear. Well, if you were reading this back in 2001 the answer would be, look for another auto maker. Fortunately Honda recognized the trend in North America towards bigger is better in 2002 with the introduction of the Honda Pilot in Denver. The Honda Pilot is the largest crossover SUV that Honda has to offer and is the only crossover from the auto maker to offer third row seating. The other option for a third row, as mentioned before, is the Odyssey which is well and firmly planted in the minivan camp. Prior to the Pilot becoming available Honda’s only offerings in the SUV or crossover market were the CR-V and the Passport. With the Passport simply a rebadging of the Isuzu Rodeo and the CR-V one of the smallest crossovers on the market Honda was well out of the full size SUV business. While the Honda Pilot in Denver isn’t a “true” SUV; it’s unibody construction, that makes it handle so much like a car, keeps it in the crossover category; it does have integrated perimeter frame rails that allow it to handle towing and some off road use making it a competitor in the SUV market, especially given it’s above average fuel consumption.

Honda Pilot in Denver 253 pound-feet of torque
In the powertrain department all of the Pilot’s receive the same treatment. A 3.5 liter, 24 valve, single overhead cam V6 that manages 250 horsepower and 253 pound-feet of torque. While this isn’t exactly a small engine the power just isn’t there, leaving the New Denver Honda a little behind it’s competitors with a sluggish take off. This 3.5, again in all trim levels, is fed by a five speed automatic transmission. Front wheel drive comes standard, but any model can be upgraded to an all wheel drive, that has some impressive technology. The AWD can shift as much as seventy percent of the power to the rear end when the front starts to slip. You can also opt to to engage “lock” mode where almost all of the power is diverted to the rear end in low gear to help get you unstuck if ever you should find yourself that way.

Honda Pilot in Denver Cylinder Management
In the trim department the Honda Pilot in Denver comes equipped. The entry level version is the LX, and beyond the aggressive and full figured body styling you get standard Variable Cylinder Management, hill start assist, and Advanced Compatibility Engineering body structure. The sound system is treated to a 229 watt Am / FM / CD with seven speakers including a subwoofer, which is quite nice for the base version of an model. You can see what’s going on with that epic sound system via the eight inch display with customizable feature settings, and it also doubles as the display for the rearview camera. You can also listen to music straight from your digital media device via a USB interface and control it all with the illuminated multifunction steering wheel. The stunning steering wheel also controls the your phone via a Bluetooth connection and cruise control which come standard. The LX can also be upgraded to the 4WD LX which, beyond the obvious four wheel drive also comes equipped with a heavy duty transmission fluid cooler.

Honda Pilot in Denver security system
The next step up for the Honda Pilot in Denver is the EX, which in addition to the LX features comes equipped with 18 inch machine finished alloy wheels, security system and body colored side mirrors. You can light up the night with multi-reflector halogen headlamps that feature auto on and off and fog lamps in the front bumper cover. The driver also gets an upgrade in the comfort department with a 10 way power adjustable seat including power lumber support. The EX, like the LX can be upgraded to the 4WD EX which features the same add ons as the 4WD LX. The EX can be further upgraded to the EX-L which adds tire pressure monitoring with location and pressure indicators. A one touch power moon roof with a tilt feature. Leather trimmed interior. The passenger gets in on the fun with their own 4 way power adjustable seat too. The liftgate gets a little nicer with power open and close. Both the front occupants get a little toastier with heated seats, and the stereo gets a little bump to include satellite radio. The EX-L is also the first option package to allow you to choose the optional upgrades of a rear DVD entertainment system and / or Satellite linked navigation. The EX-L of course is also available in the 4WD version. You can further upgrade to the Touring package that includes better sound, and all of the add on goodies from the EX-L package.

Honda Pilot in Denver Innovative Features | Kuni Honda

The Honda Pilot in Denver is chock full of interesting acronyms like iVTEC, VCM, HAS, GLC and VTM, but don’t let this alphabet soup confuse you. These acronyms are just shorthand for multiple electronic systems that decrease mechanical problems, ensure safer handling and increase fuel economy. Even if they don’t know every engineering term, new Denver Honda Pilot drivers can enjoy the handling, performance and overall efficiency that these systems provide.

Honda Pilot in Denver Variable Cylinder Management
The Pilot’s powerful V6 engine was specially designed to handle this 8-seat SUV. The engine utilizes a 24-valve unit in Honda’s innovative single overhead cam. This system uses electronic intelligence to determine the best fuel flow through the valves. Since the most efficient fuel-to-power ratio comes from a mix of air and gas, this iVTEC engine also controls how much air is used. To make the engine both lightweight and long-lasting, it is made of a special aluminum alloy. Variable Cylinder Management is the second major innovation inside the Pilot’s efficient V6 engine. VCM performs a crucial function that saves fuel without sacrificing speed. When the SUV reaches a suitable cruising speed, VCM can close off two or three of the new Denver Honda Pilot’s six cylinders. At that point, it uses the vehicle’s own forward thrust to continue moving forward. The three or four cylinders generate enough power since the car has harnessed its own forward motion. If the driver needs to accelerate, the vehicle can open more cylinders immediately. With iVTEC and VCM, the Pilot can maintain much better fuel economy than previous SUVs. With fuel economy that reaches 25 mpg on the highway, the Pilot certainly outshines the modern competition.

Honda Pilot in Denver Grade Logic Control
The Honda Pilot in Denver has been designed with Colorado’s mountain roads in mind. Hill Start Assist is an electronic feature that can prevent gear damage that occurs from repeatedly rolling backward during forward acceleration. When the Pilot is about to move forward from a stop on a typical Colorado grade, HSA actually maintains brake pressure long enough for the driver to achieve acceleration and forward momentum. This protects the gears from unnecessary grinding. For daily driving challenges, Grade Logic Control is an electronic system that assists the Pilot’s 5-speed automatic transmission. For uphill grades or downhill runs, GLC uses electronic intelligence to recognize the angle as part of the gear shifts. For a downhill climb, the GLC improves the drive by increasing traction via automated engine braking. For an uphill climb, the engine stays in a low gear that will provide ample climbing prowess. Grade Logic Control even works in city traffic by delivering better acceleration and better stopping power. The Pilot’s super-smart transmission erases gear hunting that other large vehicles experience on Colorado’s challenging grades. This smooth shifting minimizes fuel use and protects the long term viability of the Pilot’s gears. The V6, its GLC transmission and special Drive-By-Wire electronic throttle works in partnership to create maximum acceleration from the vehicle’s ample torque. The final horsepower is 250 and the torque is 253.

Honda Pilot in Denver electronic intelligence can prevent sliding and rollovers
The Pilot’s rigid unit-body structure is engineered for bending and for torsional rigidity. The independent suspension ensures remarkably precise handling. The rear differential is tuned to handle the Pilot in most situations, and the vehicle has extra traction from electronic brake distribution and vehicle stabilization features. This electronic intelligence can prevent sliding, rollovers and other stability threats. It certainly decreases dangers on sharp curves and quick turns. For snow-driving challenges, some Colorado drivers opt for the 4-wheel-drive Pilot. This special 4-wheel drive utilizes Variable Torque Management. VTM ensures better torque in more situations, and it assists the driver in handling the large SUV. VTM can be turned off by the driver when challenging situations under 18 miles per hour require more flexibility. The driver can actually lock the rear differential and gain more traction in ice, gravel or mud. This is an important feature for off-roading. The VTM’s locking differential can mark the difference between staying on track and calling a tow truck to pull the SUV out of a jam.

Honda Pilot in Denver Active Noise Cancellation
Every Honda Pilot in Denver also has a unique cockpit-like dash with eye-level backlit gauges and several multi-information displays. SMS text messaging and Bluetooth phone calls are both hands-free. For better cabin sound, the excellent audio system is enhanced by Active Noise Cancellation. ANC actually blocks engine noise via an opposite phase sound. Additionally, the active control engine mount system (ACM)reduces vibration thus reducing the chances of any resulting noise. Most passengers will only notice the spacious cabin and the great tech features, but new Denver Honda Pilot buyers can drive with confidence, knowing that their vehicle features the latest innovations in automotive engineering. Honda Pilot in Denver Transmission Features and Options

The Honda Pilot in Denver is a joy to drive both on the highway and up into the mountain resort areas. The 5-speed automatic transmission that is standard in all the 2WD models is the reason the Honda Pilot does such a great job of making driving fun. The 5-speed transmission with Grade Control Logic allows the Pilot to utilize the engine’s torque curve to accelerate quickly. The Grade Control Logic is designed to tell the engine how much power is necessary to navigate the grade of road that you are on. In cases where the grade is steep, the engine will stay in a lower gear, which allows better fuel efficiency and performance. When driving your front-wheel-drive Honda Pilot in Denver on the Interstate, the shift is smooth and as long as the road is level, the gears will perform consistently. If you find yourself on a grade, either up or down, the automatic transmission knows which gear to put the Pilot into. The Grade Control Logic can also determine how much engine braking to apply on a downhill slope. All of these things working together help to keep the miles per gallon at a 21 combined fuel mileage. The Grade Logic Control provides a smooth shift between gears since it does not need to search for the right gear for the grade. The 4WD transmission is the same as the 2WD with the exception of the use of a heavy duty transmission cooler.

Honda Pilot in Denver Gear Ratios
The gear ratios for the 5-speed automatic transmission include first gear at 2.697, second gear is at 1.606, third gear is 1.071, fourth gear is 0.766 and fifth gear is 0.612. The gear ratio for reverse is 1.888, and the final drive gear is 4.312. All the Pilot engines are V6 with 250 horsepower at 5,700 RPMs. The torque is 253 at 4,800 RPMs. The engine is designed with Variable Cylinder Management technology to reduce the use of cylinders when they are not needed without a reduction in performance. This is combined with the Grade Control Logic of the transmission for maximum fuel efficiency. The Variable Torque Management of the 4WD provides greater traction when on surfaces that are slippery.

Honda Pilot in Denver Grade Control Logic
New Denver Honda Pilot owners will know that the Grade Control Logic transmission works well in all types of weather that Denver throws their way. With weather that can offer extreme conditions, the new Denver Honda Pilot owners may be surprised at how the Variable Torque Management of the 4WD will give them a better ride while continuing to give them the gas mileage they expect from Honda. The owners of the Honda Pilot will discover that the vehicle is well equipped for recreation as well as daily driving. The tow package on the Pilot allows for 4,500 pounds of towing capacity on the 4WD version of the Pilot. The heavy duty radiator that is standard on the 4WD will keep the engine cool when towing. Anyone who is towing a boat to and from one of the many rivers in Colorado will want to ensure they have the Variable Torque Management 4WD. The 4WD option is available on all the trim models.

Honda Pilot in Denver Variable Torque Management
The 4WD Honda Pilot Variable Torque Management transmission can be engaged by pushing a button on the dashboard. The Pilot must be in first, second or reverse gear before engaging the system. It will allow the maximum amount of torque to be applied while in a lower gear. This is beneficial if you happen to be stuck along a river bed when trying to pull your boat out of the water. The lock is good up to 18 miles per hour. The 4WD system of the Honda Pilot is as intuitive as the 2WD. It also knows which gear to use to get the maximum performance from the engine.

Honda Pilot in Denver Interior is Spacious
The Honda Pilot is a great all round vehicle for hauling family and boats. The interior is spacious and the engine is capable of providing power for both on road and off road. The Pilot can effortlessly navigate through city traffic as well as mountain passes. The transmission will intuitively find the right gear for the right driving situation giving you the maximum fuel mileage. The stop and go traffic of downtown will have no adverse effect on the fuel mileage since the Pilot will know which gear to use to get from stoplight to stoplight. When it is needed, the upper two gears are a good overdrive set of gears for getting through mountain passes or passing traffic on the highway. The Honda Pilot is equipped for more than driving the kids around and many owners use their Honda Pilot for recreation. You can test drive a Honda Pilot in Denver and see for yourself how the transmission performs on the highway and through the city streets of Denver.

Honda Pilot in Littleton Engine & Horsepower
The new Denver Honda Pilot comes in four different models. The LX has a V6 engine. Honda uses a lightweight aluminum alloy engine block and alloy cylinder head to keep the weight low. It has a displacement rate of 3471 cc. The bore/stroke ratio is 89/93. The compression ratio is a slim 10.5:1. The remarkable valve train features 24 valves in a single overhead cam design with iVTEC controls. VTEC is an intelligent system that ensures better fuel performance. The variable technology electronically controls valve input, responding to speed, handling and other changing conditions. The multi-point fuel injection is also key to the best fuel usage. The Honda Pilot in Littleton is an SUV built to meet high expectations. For instance, to keep engine noise and other unwanted sound out of the cabin, Honda offers Active Noise Cancellation as a standard on all models. ANC uses a white noise from the audio system to keep the cabin quieter. An acoustic windshield helps the stereo system sound great even when you’re flying down the highway. The new Pilot is available now from your Honda Pilot in Littleton dealer.

Honda Pilot in Littleton

Honda Pilot in Littleton Variable Cylinder Management
The Honda Pilot’s base engine is so good that Honda uses it in the EX, EX-L and Touring models as well. The most remarkable feature of the Honda Pilot engine is Variable Cylinder Management. This allows the Pilot engine to close three of its cylinders when it is cruising on the highway. If the driver touches the accelerator, a fourth cylinder opens to provide extra power. If the driver presses for more acceleration, all cylinders open and the V6 engine is restored. This system is like having the best of a V6 with the better gas mileage of a V4. The system keeps gas mileage at 25 on the highway, which is exceptional for a vehicle like the roomy Pilot. As you may know, the Pilot is built to seat 8 passengers. Adding to the fuel savings, Honda engineered the Pilot to utilize regular gasoline, providing more relief at the pump than many similar SUVs.

Honda Pilot in Littleton Hill Start Assist
The V6 creates up to 250 horsepower at 5,700 rpm. The torque nearly matches at a maximum 253 at 4,800 rpm. All models come with an excellent automatic transmission for smooth gear shifting. The new Denver Honda comes with a choice of 2WD or 4WD, allowing drivers to choose what they need for daily living. The new Honda Pilot is well-equipped to handle the 250 horsepower. For Denver area drivers, that’s good news. Systems include electronic stability control, traction assist, braking assist, braking redistribution and more. Traction and braking aides make it easier to keep the Honda Pilot in Littleton safely on the road and out of danger. You can be sure that the Pilot can handle itself in traffic maneuvers, on curvy mountain roads and in stop-and-go city traffic. Hill Start Assist maintains brakeforce while your foot moves from the brake to the accelerator, keeping the car from rolling backward and hurting the gears. This makes starting on a hill much easier and much better for the SUV.

Honda Pilot in Littleton Electronic Systems
Among the electronic systems that assist the handling, the variable torque management 4-wheel drive system is always working for the driver. If you are stuck in mud or a similar no-traction situation, the system allows you to lock the rear differential and get some extra traction. This works at up to 18 mph. All models come with an integrated class III trailer hitch and are pre-wired for a harness. The new Denver Honda Pilot powertrain allows the SUV to pull up to 2000 pounds (2WD) or up to 4,000 pounds (4WD).

Honda Pilot in Littleton Drive-By-Wire
To make sure the engine lasts a long time, Honda uses ACM, the active control engine mount system. In addition, the mechanical throttle has been replaced by Honda’s Drive-by-Wire system. This makes an electronic connection between the accelerator and the engine, eliminating parts that usually wear out too easily, and creating a faster link between the driver and the engine’s response. Honda also has added a heavy duty radiator and given it two 160-watt fans to prevent overheating. The heavy duty power steering fluid cooler performs a similar job fo the coolant. The FWD models also have a heavy duty transmission fluid cooler. Multiple electronic systems work with the brakes and the steering to create better handling. This also reduces the stress on the engine, body, and brakes. All of these factors help the Honda Pilot stay on the road and out of the repair shop. In fact, Honda has designed the Pilot not to need a major tune-up for up to 100,000 miles. A maintenance minder keeps an eye on the engine for you, and it lets you know when it’s time for an oil change.

These systems can save precious seconds that may avoid a collision or reduce crash severity. This, in turns, may save lives, stop or reduce property damage, protect passengers or reduce the severity of their injuries.
